Berytus (Roman name of Beirut), the city of a thousand and one faces, thousand times destroyed, thousand times reconstructed. Violated across the centuries, continues to resist and remains standing. Generous and receiving, it is home to many foreign people. Impoverished and war torn, exiling its own people. City of tolerance yet not. City of fun yet not enduring. City of originality yet not.
BERYTUS .. A Glorified City, is a new project of Photographer Maher Attar. One woman figure, Lea Mehanna where all eyes go on her. She is the star of the collective photoshoot. She is the repeat element recurring in all the prints, wearing a flowy dress by the Lebanese designer Ziad Nakad torn at the seams. She is always struggling to keep her head high and remain standing.
